Mental Health Services in Schools

With a growing world population, mental disorder is also growing. In any culture and field of life this is evident. There are still no research institutions. The worst thing is that many psychiatric disorders grow gradually and simply can be mitigated. Schools may also assist in easy programs aimed at helping students avoid mental health issues or helping those with mental disabilities and those around them. Thus, the work that schools need to take concerning people with mental disorders is the provision of mental health support for them. However, since those who do not have mental problems by those with mental problems which they live within the same community, the schools also need to help them cope with the conditions of the affected people. This need for mental health services is what led to the founding of a non-profit community mental health clinic in Southern California (Capp, 2015). This community-based organization began partnering with schools to offer mental health services to the communities in the academic institutions.

This group has developed what is known as School Mental Health or School-Based Mental Health (SBMH). It developed a pilot program called Our Community, Our Schools (OCOS); the organization started offering mental health services to schools in Southern California (Capp, 2015). The agency started off with a small staff, but has since expanded and increased the number of professionals working for it. The funding was obtained from the county government’s reserve of state’s Medicaid Funds. The hurdles that this agency has come across on its way have only made it improve its services.
