Master’s degree at Harvard Business School

I am now pursuing my master’s degree at Harvard Business School, which I intend to complete in the following months. I currently work as a human resource executive, which has provided me insight into the organization’s administration. After completing my MBA, I would consider applying for a higher-level management position within the firm. So that I can put my knowledge and skills from my master’s project research to use. My administration in the human resource department has put me in a position where I was able to demonstrate my skills in the recruitment and creation of development plans for training and development of the employees. Competence and compliance were my tools of choice, and I was able to reveal not only the possible increases in productivity but also the rise in the morale of my fellow colleagues and subordinates. I have been able to show my ability in managing my assistants by providing clear and unparalleled direction, more so while under pressure, I have shown resilience and commitment to my subordinate, which is evident by the work achievements of the organization’s goals in line with the set out deadlines.

Having interacted with my fellow employees, I have established a rapport of collaboration spearheading teamwork to increase productivity. Being a human resource executive, it has endowed me with the responsibility of not judging a book by its cover. With such an attitude, I have been able to facilitate teamwork as progress can only be achieved together and not singularly.

Opportunities

If any opportunities arose, it would be tremendous to be included as a possible candidate so that I can demonstrate my vast knowledge and experience in leading teams and managing employees in the achievement of the set goals and objectives. I would also not mind being an apprentice of the senior managers and directors so as to learn from them as I mature my understanding of the organization.

Development Needs

I need to understand more about managing conflicts in the department as I deal with the employees on a regular basis, hence understanding better conflict resolution mechanisms would be advantageous. Conflicts are normal in a workplace being an executive in the human resource it is expected of me to be able to solve them; hence a better understanding of the conflict resolution mechanisms would perhaps be a standard measure.

I also would consider developing my listening skills so as to provide better efficiency and effectiveness to the employees. Working as a human resource executive places you as the target, where listening is a priority as the position comes with the condition of managing employees. Especially during appraisals, if any employee is unsatisfied and they seek an appeal, is the first stage of the resolution process. Also, subordinates require feedback from their executive’s better listening skills will facilitate a significant consideration to their views which will also reflect in the turnover rate of employees.

Finally, I need to develop my planning competencies in the briefing of my subordinates so as to present solutions rather than the presentation of problems. Being an executive, it is perhaps common to delegate problems (for lack of a better word) and demand results. Nevertheless, it would be a morale boost to my subordinates if I not only present the problems but also give an insight on how to get the expected results, hence contributing to a lively and not sour mood in the workplace.

Personal Goals

Short-term Goals

Complete a professional management course so as to be eligible for a higher management position when the opportunity is available. In the meantime, get a chance of being an apprentice to a senior director or manager so as to expound my knowledge of the business. Also being a human resource executive, my key task is retaining talented employees. Hence, I am aspiring to get more knowledge on preventing high turnover rates in the organization.

Mid-term Goals

Get a bigger team to supervise in projects in the organization that will give me a significant exposure to the business world. Development only takes root with the extent of challenges that come about and end up in defeat. Hence a bigger team results into a better chance for learning and growth.

Long-term Goals

Contribute significantly to the firm’s success by developing the human resource and facilitating efficient and effective decisions, by spearheading the best possible productivity of the employees under me. Finally, facilitation of a sound working environment that anchors on resourcefulness and creativity to achieve the goals of the organization.
