Some of the talents that can be used in a workplace to enhance job performance are highlighted in the matrix above. These abilities span from a person’s ability to manage their own job obligations to their ability to engage with others within the business. There are more talents that can be used to enhance job performance but are not listed in the matrix. The ones that have already been described above, nonetheless, are the most important for raising performance levels inside a business. Organizational behavior looks at the manner in which people interact in the organization with the aim of improving job performance and the overall productivity levels of the employees. In relation to the aforementioned skills, they relate to organizational behavior as they form part of the elements that are needed to achieving improved productivity levels within the organization. For example, if employees are able to be trained on how to improve their listening skills, people will actually feel that their ideas and opinions are valued during meetings as people are keenly listening to them.
If people are able to work on achieving these skills, their interactions with other employees will improve and this will unify how employees work leading to enhanced productivity. This shows that the above skills form a huge component of organizational behavior.
These skills are also crucial in leading to improved job performance in many ways. If employees are able to easily adapt to change within an organization, the organization will quickly adapt to new systems and processes and easily maximize on this competitive advantage that their competitors might not have applied. These skills are able to guide an individual in establishing ways in which they can contribute to change among other innovative solutions within the organization. At the end of it all, the company is able to have a committed and loyal workforce who are dedicated to achieving the company’s goals and objectives.
Organizational behavior can aid in decision making and problem solving in many ways. Primarily, organizational behavior is able to point out the reasons as to why employees act the way they do. In this way, company managers are able to come up with effective solutions that will keep their employees happy and satisfied. They will be able to eliminate non-value adding activities and processes that might have frustrated their employees while working. Organizational behavior will also guide the company’s management to understanding the importance of involving employees in decision making within the company. As the employees are the ones usually dealing with consumers and core business operations, they should be involved in decision making. This will act as a source of motivation for employees and will aid in effective problem solving and decision making.
Even amidst using organizational behavior to try and improve job performance, there are other challenges faced within the organization that also need to be considered. An example of this is unethical behavior within the organization. If the management team are not keen on dealing with unethical employees, this will encourage employees to use underhand methods to achieve results. If investors find out that the company deals with dishonest practices, they may withdraw their stake within the company which will lower the value of a company’s shares. Consumers will also prefer to acquire goods and services from competitors if they are unaware of unethical behavior within the organization (Greenwood, 2016).
