Religion dates back to the time before the birth of Jesus Christ who is the son of God. During the beginning of time God created Adam and Eve who signed and had been chased away from the Garden of Eden. Sin came into the world through Adam and Eve when they ate the forbidden fruit. Other religions such as Islam, Hindu, and Buddhism also commenced long ago. Since then religion has come a long way and it has confronted its fair share of challenges.

There have come people who are opposed to non secular teachings (Zed). They do not believe in the existence of God, Allah, or any other being who is most beneficial to them. These group of people are called atheists. The atheists believe that there is nothing like religion and people should not confine themselves to any religious doctrines or beliefs. Due to the growth of modern technology, many people spend their time online, working on their gadgets, instead of attending church, mosques or shrines (Zed). Therefore, this reduces active participation of people in religious activities. When people start being inactive in religious matters, they slowly drift away from practicing their religious beliefs. There has been a large decline in religious moral values. This has been contributed by culture change and peoples focus on individualism, materialism, and secularism (Zed). There has been rise of homosexuality, drug and substance abuse, corruption, adultery, and many more vices.

The Catholic Church is among the early denominations that sprung up when religion began. The Catholic Church believes in two greatest commandments; you shall love the Lord your God with all your whole heart, soul, mind, body, and strength and love your neighbor and ourselves, we must keep the commandments of God and of the church, and perform spiritual and corporal acts of mercy. The church liturgy is based on seven tenets: baptism, Holy Communion, confirmation, reconciliation, anointing of the sick, Holy orders and Holy matrimony (Berkley centre forReligion, Peace and World Affairs). The catholic beliefs are as follows: in order to gain happiness one must know love, and serve God in his every day work, the teaching on love and service is portrayed by Jesus Christ the son of God who died for our sins, in order to be saved one must believe that God exists and believe in the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), the church is the congregation of all baptized persons who are united by the same faith, Holy Sacrament and the leadership of the Pope.

The church has the universally known Christian commandments, but it also has its own church commandments. These church commandments are as follows: one should assist at mass on all Sundays and Holy days of obligation, one should fast and abstain on the days appointed by the church, confess at least once a year, receive Holy Communion during Easter time, contribute to support the church, and observe church laws concerning marriage (Zed). The church takes marriage very seriously. Couples are required to attend catechism about marriage before they are wed before God and the congregation. The church believes that there are various vocations and people can serve God in their various vocations.

In the next five hundred years, religion will have changed a great deal. Some religions will have embraced homosexuality and use of contraceptives. With the growth of technology and spread of technology even to the most remote parts of the world, active participation in church will be minimal since most people will be streaming church services live from the comfort of their homes. There will also be very few evangelists and sheikhs to teach and spread religious teachings.
