Jamie has made insightful comments about how a teacher might be ready for a social diversity class. As with any other subject, social diversity instruction calls for a variety of resources, including texts, films, and visual aids, to assist students understand what diversity includes and how they could participate in and contribute to it. The way people connect and exchange ideas has changed significantly over time. Educators might implement strategic learning ways to promote additional knowledge synthesis in the classroom with the advent of new and superior technologies. The impact of this is that the world now enjoys a highly diversified social, economic, religious, and political environments making learning social diversity on an academic level critical (Gay, 2013). However, I feel that cultural diversity class should not only concentrate on the historical part of diversification but also on the current and future trends. This will not only prepare the students for the work environment but also give them the abilities that would allow them an advantage in the future.
Likewise, I share similar views as Jamie on the issue of each students’ uniqueness. An individual’s culture has a significant effect on how he or she reasons and learn. This presents a unique challenge to teachers since a modern classroom often has a myriad of cultures. Apart from considering each student’s learning patterns or academic needs, the educator should also remember that cultural backgrounds can raise sensitive issues, especially when teaching about cultural diversity. It is advisable for the instructor to present an accurate and comprehensive content that portrays ethical and racially diverse groups and experiences. This approach would help students from both minority and majority groups counteract the adverse discriminations and falsifications propagated in conventional concepts of knowledge (Gay, 2013).
