By definition, intelligence is the action of investigating the environment and interpreting the results internally to improve decision making. It entails gathering information, creating intelligence, and discovering new insights that can assist shape current knowledge and impact action. Conducting a personal profile is the act of gathering information about an individual and analyzing the information gathered to determine or forecast specific behaviors to aid in making judgments about the topic. This initiative attempts to teach students how to profile individuals while also allowing them to practice information collection. Dr. Jonathan is known to be among the spearheads of intelligence and forethought. He is a professor at the University of Ottawa, Telfer School of Management where he lectures International Business and Strategy. Dr. Calof blends the knowledge of research and consultation in his fields of business analytics and competitive intelligence to assist companies and other organizations in developing crucial comprehensions in their competitive environment (Linkedin, 2017).
In his career, Calof has been able to give more than 1000 speeches during sessions and important addresses globally on the topic of intelligence and foresight (Yang Group, 2017). He has facilitated many agencies and companies globally in enhancing their level of business intelligence, business analytics skills and foresight competence. He has been awarded several honors for efforts to recognize his contributions in turning fact-based decisions to reality. In competitive intelligence, Calof has received the Frost and Sullivan awards of lifetime achievement. Additionally, he has won the Fellow award given by the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (Linkedin, 2017).
His exemplary knowledge on competitive intelligence, teaching experience and his talents have made him to be recognized by famous institutions. At Yunnan Normal University in China, he was given an award of honorary professor (Telfer, 2010). Dr. Calof has also been awarded an honorary membership to the Russian Society of Competitive Intelligence Professional. He has also received an appointment to the international advisory board for the Russian Foresight Committee of HSE (Linkedin, 2017). He also enjoys the privilege of being on the Board of advisors at the Centre en Intelligence Economique et Management Stratégique, Morocco. He has been called to attend talks and interviews in the media globally as a result of his work, and he has been featured in various publications globally (Communications Directorate, 2017).
Conversely, according to Yang Group (2017), Calof is an author, and he has produced over 100 publications on competitive intelligence. He has also written books both as an author and co-author on competitive intelligence. He is a co-editor of the book ‘Competitive Intelligence Foundation’s Conference and Trade Show Intelligence’ and an executive editor of the Magazine ‘Frontline Safety and Security Magazine.’ According to Linkedin (2010), Dr. Calof not only participate actively in the academic but he is also a director at RoboCoder and Success Nexus. RoboCoder is a software company based in Canada while Success Nexus is a biofuel Company in Malaysia. From his experience as a director, he has put efforts to teach organizations on corporate failures that he faced at the Canadian corporate firm. His study results have taught lessons and have led to the introduction of tools and abilities on how to measure and manage the black cloud of customer doubts. Dr. Calof is also studying the competitive intelligence practices in organizations globally (Scholar, 2017).
