Globalization and its Impact on Contemporary Culture

Globalization has had a significant impact on contemporary culture, resulting in the transformation of our old cultures. Globalization has accelerated economic, social, and political development around the world. Socially, globalization has improved communication by introducing communication channels such as televisions, telephones, and the internet, which has resulted in the easier spread of knowledge to a large audience in a short period of time (Globalization,2017).

The Cost of Transportation and the Growth of Open Trade Markets

The cost of transportation has also decreased, allowing for more convenient movement of products and services. Globalization has accelerated the growth of open trade markets, increasing national and international exports for multinational cooperation. Nonetheless, globalization has undermined civilian cultures in less industrialized countries who tend to copy the cultural aspect of the western cultures.

Ethnocentrism and its Barrier to Globalization

Ethnocentrism is a significant barrier to globalization as it may hinder individuals from fully interacting with others due to formed judgment and opinion over other cultures. Ethnocentrism can, however, be avoided by creating global awareness, declaring interests on affairs of other countries through research. Other ways are following up on events in other nations and by understanding the world statistics in determining an individual culture fits in a global economy ( How to reduce Ethnocentrism from SUNY Global Center on Vimeo,2017 ) This will help promote global awareness which will enhance cultural diversity across the globe.

Globalization and Women Empowerment

One of the major highlights of globalization is that it has improved women empowerment and allowed women to venture into leadership opportunities at all spheres without discrimination (For Elaine Chao, A Tough Voyage To U.S. Leadership,2017). Women have been able to attain leadership opportunities despite their race, religion or culture due to the global awareness that advocates for equal opportunities for all genders.

Leadership and Cultural Aspects in Globalization

Leadership and culture determine the global aspect of economic, social and political spheres of the society ( Lang, 1991). A good leader is one who can combine both general and cultural aspects of developments without being ethnocentric or being judgemental of other cultures. A leader should embrace assertiveness, team collaboration,self-protectiveness, and gender egalitarianism in enhancing cultural diversity which will inturn promote globalization across multinationals.
