People frequently asked themselves questions about who they are, closely relating to the concept of identity, a concept that has a big impact on how other people perceive us. It pertains to an individual’s characteristics, appearance, personality, and expression. (Fearon 27). People could be unaware of their identity in a variety of ways, or they could sometimes take it for granted. But eventually, everyone wants to know who they are, and this is frequently determined by what other people think of us. For most of my life, people have used distinct words to describe me and the most common or at least the frequently word that people use to explain my identity is ’adaptive.’ In other words, many of my friends tend to think that I am an adaptive person.
To a large extent, the above word reflects who I am as I understand myself as well as the world comprehend me. I always tend to adapt to changes quickly and easily by forgetting the old and adopting the new. I am fond of relinquishing what I once believed to be true, habit or routine for what ring to be the situation at the moment. In particular, this arises from my curiosity and generation of inquiries that result in the need to solve the underlying circumstance. I can describe myself as someone that does not remain rigid in my worldview and limited to potentials. Most of my lifetime is characterized by emphasizing from my parents that it is imperative for one to keep learning on how to accept change quickly (Fearon 27). They always said that this is the best ways in which one could deal with stress or emotional situations easily.
Also, I strongly believe the word ’adaptive’ brings out my identity clearly because I often tend to see opportunities where others would perceive failure. I have a habit of convincing myself that I need to change even when it means foregoing what I once believed is right. There are few cases in my life when I recall having stagnated for not accepting the new truth or fact about life situations I encountered as I grew up. Therefore, I believed I am always open to opportunities and lookout for improvement. I absorb the new changes, understand what has happened and move on to the new aspects of life.
Further, according to the ways I understand myself, I am an adaptive person because I often tend to stay current and maintain an open mind. I am fond of understanding the need for change and why it is crucial. Therefore, it is imperative to note that I always try to adopt communication strategy for everything I did especially when change involved other people close to me, for example, family members and friends. As I grew up, my parents emphasized the need to realize the impact of words and language. As such, I tend to communicate and listen to others in a way that enables me to more from the old to the current situation. I can describe myself as someone who is not limited in thinking which means I explore choices that position me towards change which require an understanding personal value, knowing what is important to me and what is not. An outcome, these cajole me along the pathways to effective change.
However, although most people describe me as an adaptive individual, am not completely as they say. In other words, at some point, the word does not reflect who I am. In some instance, I do not adapt to the current changes effectively. For example, when I was in my last year in high school I went to a boarding institution, and I began experiencing homesick. I could not get used to the surrounding or sleep for several days. I also did not like the most of the unfamiliar foods offered by the schools I missed by former schooling environment so much that I began expressing signs of depression.
Also, it is fundamental to indicate that I recognized several bad characteristic about myself at the time. I was become stubborn to other students, especially, when choosing things. For instance, I used to have quarrels with my roommates about shower the past few days. Specifically, this is because I was adamant about changing my old habit. Moreover, I got irritable most of the times when something distracted me while concentrating. For example, I would say rude words to others because I was not satisfied with the new environment. In other words, I have trouble accepting the new learning institution and I did not see it to be of my social class. At some point I realized that I became lazy as I had lost motivation to do my studies as before. However, I received support from my parent as they would phone me frequently though they were busy with work. As such, it is imperative to indicate that at some point I am unable to adapt well on my own until I have support from other people.
