You asked me to compare two videos at our last meeting: “Ideas Are Scary” and ”General Electrical.” I choose the best video for the event after consulting two academic works. Commercial video, according to (Saad et al., 2014), “holds individual minds that can change our actions on a subconscious basis by the use of particular tools.” In this scenario, I based my decision on multiple assessment factors, including imagination, narrativity, anticipation, and realism. Based on these principles, I concluded that the video ”Ideas Are Scary” should be seen during the case. A brief overview of the assessment parameters is given below. I judged the creativity of the two videos based on the content, technological innovation and use of unique nature of the underlying idea. ”Ideas are scary” video has better content than “General electrical” video. The content is informative not only to engineers but everyone else. It portrays how when an individual first get an idea is scared, everyone body does not believe in them and avoids them. However, if a person holds on to the idea and avoids the thoughts of giving up, along with the way someone else notices the underlying potential and offer to help. An individual ends up becoming a champion. It is only when you are championing that people will celebrate you.
The video showcase this information in a very creative way that involves use of different themes in the video such as loneliness to show lack of support, hatred and isolation to portray no individual want to reason with you, friendship to showcase you cannot make it alone and finally respect to show how people react when an individual succeeds. This makes the video content quality to be engaging and relevant to resonance and a point of view. To the recruitee’s, it will encourage them never to ignore and give up their ideas. It also shows them that although the road to greatness might be tough, the future will be brighter. It is technically mind blowing and overall memorable.
On the other hand, the video “General Electrical” lacks to portray a clear message to its audience. It shows a series of various engineering innovation that has been achieved over time. It lacks to showcase how the innovation was achieved and hence it wouldn’t offer much encouragement to the recruitees. For this reason, it lacks to create memories. Not only does it lack to engage its audience, but it is also limited to the engineering department thus not everyone can reason with it. For this reason, I considered the content relevance of the video “Ideas are scary” to be more creative, engaging, informative and memorable.
Adoption of new technological video capturing technique that helps to draw viewers and keeps their attention. On video innovation, it is crucial to examine whether a video is using a new idea or iterating on previous ideas (Zheng et al., 2015). On this criteria, I found “Ideas are scary theory” to have used more technological innovation than “General electrical” video. For example, there is the use of animation which lacks in the other video. The use of bear to represent human being is an innovative technological idea. The general electrical video has not used any innovative technological design but rather literate on the already existing one. Therefore did not find it to be creative enough.
Finally, on nature of underlying idea criteria, I found, “idea are scary” video to have a clear and concise idea/message. It showcases the step of an individual from a very humble background all the way to greatness. This underlying message is perfect for the recruitee’s who will be in most need of encouragement and assurance at that time. On the other hand, the video General electrical lack any underlying message. Its message on use of innovative software in hospitals is simple and direct. Although this is a good idea to be simple and straightforward to your point, it is equally important to engage creative ideas so as to capture the audience attention and hold their memories. Overall, I found the video “Idea are Scary “to be very creative and innovative.
According to (Saad et al., 2014), Narrativity in a video is an intelligent way of taking control of the viewer’s thought. It helps the viewer’s concentrate on the material being watched. In my evaluation, I found the video “Ideas are Scary “to have a more clear narrativity than “General Electrical.” The video shows the transformation of ideas from one step to another. For example, the story is based on, an individual being born, being lonely in the street, facing rejection, getting a friend who helps them on their journey and finally becoming a champion. The story line, therefore, can capture watchers attentions as they view how ideas are being transformed from one step to another.
On the other hand, the video “General electrical” showcase the various importance of innovative software used in hospitals at a time. This means that there is no flow in ideas because the importance portrayed are different although referring to a similar thing. Therefore, the video lacks to capture viewers attentions hence does not take control of the viewer’s thoughts. Overall, I found “Ideas are Scary” video to be better because it has the sense of narrativity which is very crucial to the viewers.
A crucial element of a commercial video is to keep the watchers on edge and make them look forward to a resolution eagerly. Through the use of certain words, accompanying statement and sounds, a commercial video can hold watchers mind within its grasp (Zheng et al., 2015). Between the two videos, I found the “Ideas are scary” to have more suspense. At the beginning of the video, they showcase a bear which is born, get to the streets where it is rejected and portrayed to be ugly. This creates the viewers with the suspense of what will eventually become of it. It creates the eagerness for resolution. The resolution is shown at the end when the bear becomes a champion. On the other hand, the video “general electrical lacks to create suspension because of a regular change of ideas. As earlier discussed, it lacks to build on one idea but rather focus on a number of them. This made me make a decision that is showing “Ideas are Scary” video at the event will be a good idea.
In conclusion, I found the video “Ideas are Scary” to be the most appropriate for the event. I also found it correct to state that “Commercial video holds individual mind that can alter our decisions on the subconscious level through the use of specific tools.” Through the use of creativity, suspense and narrativity, the video “Ideas are Scary” is able to hold individual’s mind by capturing viewers’ attention, creating memory and being fun. I would highly recommend it for the event.
