The exponential advancement in technology has both positive and negative effects on human expectations. However, the rise of modern communications has had a greater positive impact on human awareness than it has had a negative impact (Boyd & Ellison, 2007). People’s thinking, actions, interactions with others, and behavior in dealing with different problems are all evolving as a result of digital communications. It is undeniable that communication technologies, such as the internet and social media, facilitate the learning of more ideas (Boyd & Ellison, 2007). Also, the technologies enable people to retain more information gained, access information just after an incidence or occurrence and be aware about most happenings across the globe. The most important attribute derived from the tremendous technological changes is that it is enabling people to attain a global thinking.
Digital communication has significantly impacted on individual’s conceptualization of knowledge. It has simply enhanced the exchange of knowledge beyond geographical limitations. Reliance on book works, physical attendance for lectures has substantially declined since the information can be conveniently accessed online (Chen & Zhang, 2010). Undoubtedly, robust development in digital communications technologies enhances unprecedented explosion in access to information at a relatively cheaper cost and in the shortest time possible. Even if somebody is committed on other errands, there is an opportunity to obtain any information or discussion that occurred in absentia (Kovarik, 2011). Consequently, there is a commensurate increase the sharing and usefulness of information that keeps people conversant with most important activities that occur worldwide. Enlightened people are empowered to actively contribute in social, political and economic perspectives that define what entails life (Ioannides et al., 2008). Ostensibly, digital communications have transformed storage, transfer, and storage of knowledge from writing and printing to a fluid for that is easily accessible, readable and writeable and further improved. Technology in media and communication has eased the magnitude of information flow and sharing among people across the world. This has thus, increased the willingness of scholars, learners, and anybody to freely share their views and welcome suggestions from any bright minds.
Digital technologies substantially make our thinking to be smarter than before (Thompson, 2014). Changes in communication compel people to drop information that is unconstructive and embrace ideas that interrogate these transformations and offer proactive visionary. People always yearn to comprehend more about the universe which has ultimately created an enlightened society. The magnitude at which information can be disseminated from one region to the other influences the way information is handled. Sensitive information is always accorded the highest level of confidentiality required to ensure it is not accessed by unauthorized individuals. In short, advancements in communication technologies have subjected people to the high degree of carefulness (Kovarik, 2011). Individual’s acts are controlled by the perceptions that if any immoral act is committed, the information will be communicated globally within seconds. Communications technologies thus have created a feeling that the each is a village market and anything committed in any region can be accessed by anyone through the internet (Cheong & Gray, 2011). Therefore, technology is strengthening people’s creative minds and giving them new ways of handling various issues in the contemporary society.
What seemed hard to individuals is nowadays simple. For instance, people used to struggle to memorize phone numbers of their friends, parents, and relatives. Today, such services are outsourced to smartphones hence, freeing the minds of people and giving room for grasping of new ideas. Their minds are freed for other critical issues and further enable them to reason together with the computers.
Digital communications improves people social interactions. There is a sharp contrast between the people used to receive and respond to information orally. It was hard to amicably resolve conflicts because individuals perhaps lacked relevant knowledge and were unconnected to other people. Staying connected to others globally increases soberness of the mind and brotherhood feeling among people. Vices such as nepotism, racism, corruption, etc., which probably create conflicts are discouraged. Instead, individuals are motivated to share their experiences on various issues on the web, the internet, social media and other communication devices (Wang, Walther & Hancock, 2009). As a result, corrupted ideas are washed away, and individuals live positively with others. Pressing issues are openly shared. Hence people learn from such conversation and gain useful ways of handling controversial matters in the society (Chen, 2012).
Positivity has also been enhanced by the technology through its ability to expand on the existed ideas. Dilemmatic perspectives are shared and openly discussed through the social media, television, radio, etc. and people are given better options of handling such situations. Apparently, two or more people are better than one while reasoning together (Cheong & Gray, 2011). Therefore, staying together makes people smarter in handling issues which ultimately changes their reasoning and consciousness.
Moreover, digital communication not only impact on the way individuals interact and act, but it has further increased happiness in people. Digital communication devices provide a broad range of entertaining services. People can take a photoshop, watch videos, chat, play games, download and listen to music, etc. These activities indeed impacts on the way people spend their time while they are relaxing. These arts positively impacts on subconscious minds of individuals and their behavior (Chen, 2012).
In conclusion, it is unquestionable to extrapolate that digital communication has brought positive transformations in human perceptions and the public sphere. It has brought forth global network center where individuals are connected to others in globally. Information freely more from either side of the globe and can be shared through communication devices. As a result, the interconnectedness has rebuild new life experiences among people and has ultimately led to the transformation of interactional styles, social patterns, education aspects, and other aspects regarding the well-being of individuals in the society. Also, the awareness among people has increased which as washed away traditional notions that hindered people from remaining connected and reasoning in the same way with other people globally. Therefore, as more developments happen, human character, actions, and mind equally change as they pursue ideas and things that improve their life and interaction with others.
