How Does the Author of the Gospel of John (Bible) Demonstrate Jesus’ Divinity and Humanity?

When Jesus was on earth, John was an influential member of his apostles, and he was regarded as the youngest and most beloved apostle of Jesus Christ. John, like few other apostles, recounted events that occurred when Jesus was on earth; however, John went a little further by portraying Jesus as both human and spiritual.

The idea of Jesus Christ’s divinity and morality was beautifully outlined in the introductory chapter of the Bible book written by John. The Gospel according to John is the title of the book. He began by clearly emphasizing the divinity of Jesus by describing him as the word, “in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1vs.1) The above statement made by John portrays Jesus as a personality of a divine origin. John proceeded by stating that in the beginning, Jesus was with God and that Jesus made all thing and nothing was created without his influence (John 1 vs. 2-3). There is need to note that John portrays Jesus as the creator, a characteristic that attributes divinity to him

John also clearly pointed out the human aspect of Jesus Christ in the first chapter of his account of the life and times of Christ on the earth. John stated that ”the word was made flesh and he dwelt among us” (John 1 vs. 14). The statement points out the human aspect of Jesus Christ referring to his ability to live with people on earth i.e. the ability adopt their lifestyle and carry out all human-related activities.

There is need to conclude by stating the John identified Jesus as both human and divine. He described Jesus as the word and the creator, pointing out his divinity and by referring to Jesus as flesh was a description of his humanity.
