Competency in Group Communication

Competency in group communication demonstrates my range of abilities and my capacity as a team player. My awareness of group communication rules and my ability to communicate honestly and ethically are just a few places where I can excel. In addition, I respect and am able to work with team members from various racial, religious, and social backgrounds. I also value diversity in a team. I also have the ability to carry out important activities by enlisting the assistance of other team members and creating pertinent inquiries and descriptions of the expected responsibilities. In addition, I have the ability to inspire coworkers or team members to complete their assignments successfully in order to achieve the predetermined goals and objectives. However, it is difficult for me to persuade group members to alter their attitudes and behavior towards the administration or responsibilities. It is an area where I need to improve. Additionally, I am able to design group goals, resolve problems facing team members, and listen attentively to colleagues to understand their point of view on a certain issue. I perform well in organizing meeting agendas and demonstrating strong leadership skills. Through research, I am able to share and discuss essential ideas and information with other group members. However, there are areas where I need to improve such as resolving conflicts among group members, use of assertiveness strategies and skills, and utilization of parliamentary procedures in meetings. The group competency survey show that I can effectively undertake manager’s role or be a team leader.

Improving Group Communication Competency

To improve my competency, I would find a mentor whom I would emulate so as to develop my skills in group communication (Vangelisti, 2016). Besides, I would change my attitude towards some aspects such as group norms and standards of behavior so as to improve my performance. Moreover, I would enroll in training on conflict resolution so that I can be able to resolve conflicts as they arise in the group. Also, I would learn to follow appropriate procedures to ensure that proper decisions for the group are made. I would develop the ability to make active contributions towards group discussion and improve the use of gestures, body language, and eye contact during interaction with group members.
