Mary John, who lived between 1820 and 1910, is regarded as the father of nursing. Based on her experiences, she felt that this was a divine calling. She was a lady who valued people and was very modest. Her decisions to devote herself to the service of others did not sit well with her parents, and as a result, they were opposed to her wishes. Nonetheless, she continued to dream, and amid the rage and defiance of her mother and sister, she rebelled against her status as a mother and wife. Furthermore, Mary was characterized as elegant, slim, and beautiful on the one hand, and charming and endowed with a radiant smile on the other. Additionally, her most persistent suitor was a poetry and politician, but after a courtship of nine years, Mary decided to break up the courtship for the reason that, she believed that marriage could interfere with her goal to follow her nurse calling.

In 1847, Mary met another friend Patrick Sidney who was also a politician who and a secretary of war that take place in 1845 to 1846 and keep their friendship for a long time. As time goes by, Mary became principal adviser to Sidney throughout his political life. In the year 1861, Mary was accused of having hastened her friend Sidney, and this caused pressure her program on reform was placed on him. Additionally, her most famous contribution of becoming a nurse, came during the Crimean war and this became a central focus, and on October 1854, she had thirty-eight women who volunteered as nurses that she had trained and fifteen nuns. As days passed by, she stood firm with her desire of becoming a nurse founder and later on Mary invited the first official nursing training program that was named after her name that was opened on 1860.

In the year 1970, the great depression affected our family negatively. During this period there was an increase in the price of product and services and the small salaries that the family received was only meeting day to day activities with zero savings. Additionally, it was a burden to take all the siblings at school because the little money that we held was not enough to educate more than two kids. Additionally, this made it difficult for the young kids who were going to school with no foods and sometimes little food that could sustain them during the day. This did stop, two of our children were learning in rural areas could not attend their classes because the schools closed their doors due to a decrease in teacher’s salary.

Moreover, securing a job was another arduous task. Because, most of the family members were willing to work to support the younger ones with foods, clothing’s, and in paying the rent but the level of unemployment increased with a higher rate and as a result, no one was lucky enough to secure a job. On the other hand, paying the debts that the family held was another heavy burden that made life look dull during this time. After budgeting the available salary in the house, only little of it remained and therefore, as the more time we took to pay the debt the higher the interest the debt was gaining. Consequently, due to lack of enough cash and lack of employment the level of insecurity increased in different locations of the country and as a result moving from one place to another was hard since estimating the degree of uncertainty was a challenge.
