Family Feud 6th Edition

Family Feud 6th Edition is a board game designed for both boys and girls aged 8 to 11 years. The board game is multicolored and designed for more than one player. The game’s intended audience is family and friends. Essentially, family and friends can play amongst or with one another. The game instructions, questions/survey answers, and a dry erase score keeper are among the items included in the Family Feud 6th Edition package. The dry erase marker allows the players the opportunity to note the scores on the board.

Benefits for Children in the Suggested Age Range

I agree with the age that is suggested by the manufacturers since the game contains easy questions which are relevant to individuals in the subject age range. At the age of 8-11, a child is becoming more adept in their motor skills (Tsao, 2002). They become more skilled at using their fingers and the Family Feud 6th Edition allows them such an opportunity. Socially, children in the subject age range will be able to play games with simple rules which is a reflection of the rules which are included the board game. Their speech is also enhanced given that they are able to acquire new words at an accelerated pace. The questions and answers in the board game allows the child the opportunity to learn more words. They will further be able to employ language to predict and infer solutions.

Development of Cognitive Skills

The game is effective since it offers children in the age range of 8 to 11 the ability to develop their cognitive skills. To begin with, the player is allowed the opportunity to draft their own responses and note the same on the board. This initiative augments the subject child’s ability to think constructively and infer relevant solutions (Ginsburg, 2007). Alternatively, the board game allows the children the opportunity to develop their motor skills. The management and movement of the eye and the fingers is a reflection of increased mastery over the motor skills. As the child learns to use the dry erase score keeper they are further increasingly able to interpret numbers. This initiative is a reflection of improved cognitive skills by the child.

Weaknesses for Children in the Suggested Age Range

Still, the game projects several weaknesses with regards to children in the subject age range. At the age of 8 to 11 years, children are less likely to follow rules given their inclination towards self-identity and independence (Ginsburg, 2007). The rules in the board game has the potential to discourage succinct participation by the children. It is further limited in the effect that it has over the children in the development of physical abilities. The board game limits the physical movements of the child. The limitation may not be readily appreciated by an individual between the ages of 8 and 11 given their commitments to the physical environment around them.

Limited Influence on Emotional Development

Additionally, the Family Feud 6th edition fails to make an impression on the emotional development of the target audience. The rules, questions, and answers do not reinforce the child’s ability to control his emotion. Since the questions are on social and physical elements around the child, he or she may fail to link the inferred solutions to their emotions. Thus, the game projects a limited influence over emotional development on the target group. Overall, the game may be inefficient in augmenting the child’s development.
