Before commencing a construction project on any plot of land, it is crucial to carry out an environmental site analysis. A case study was considered for the plot of land bordering Park Rocher des Doms (see highlighted region in figure 1). From figure 1 and 4, it is observed that the land is border to sea on the left. As a result, strong winds are expected to affect any structure built on the plot from the south. Therefore, a high thick wall needs to be built along the southern part of the plot to reduce the impact of wind on the building.
At the same time, from figure 2, 3, and 5 it is noted that the shadows of the buildings fall of the west side since the sun rises on the east side of the map. As such, most of the windows of the building should be placed on the east side where the sun rises in order to ensure maximum light enters the building constructed.
Looking at the proposed construction site, it is also noted that it is bordered by a park on the west side and hence, trees and a lot of vegetation on that part. As such, to ensure minimum interference to the residents of the building on the plot, there is need to design minimum number of doors and windows on the part facing the park. In addition, less daylight is expected from this part of the plot hence, few openings should be designed on that part of the building.
Similarly, the main source of noise pollution is expected to come from the east side of the plot due to the many residential apartments and the north side due to the Avignon cathedral. As such, hollow bricks should be used in the construction of the walls on these sides where a lot of noise is expected.
Overall, the plot considered can be used to harness solar energy by using panels on the roofs since the land appears to receive sufficient amount of sunlight.
