Poverty is defined as not having a certain good or need in one’s life. Lack of sufficient funds or other financial resources is frequently a clear sign of poverty. The economic, political, and social facets of poverty are only a few examples. Although poverty has turned the promise that education will be a great equalizer in terms of money and social standing into a myth rather than the eagerly anticipated reality (Child Fund International, 2017). When compared to their counterparts from wealthy backgrounds, those living in situational and generational poverty have unequal access to types of schooling. The portrayed difference is as a result of the fact that children from poor lineages tend to lag behind on issues concerning education. Moreover, the education statistics board has underlined the fact that students who receive free meals due to their poor backgrounds attain lower grades as compared to their affluent counterparts (Child Fund International, 2017). The attainment of the lower grades is attributable to overcrowding of the students in classrooms as well as the overwhelming family expenses which derail the efforts to ensure the parents can pay for the education of their children in high-end schools (Child Poverty Action Group, 2017).
Although poverty has played a significant role in widening the knowledge gap between the poor and the rich children in the society, the creation of a perfect classroom where all the students can access to a rich and challenging curriculum is attainable and vital. Ensuring the presence of food security is crucial in promoting an adequate environment for learning (Child Poverty Action Group, 2017). The food security will ensure the students focus on their academics rather than having a deterred concentration. Moreover, advocating for the students’ rights such as the need to promote the rights of the learners against violence and corporal punishment (Child Fund International, 2017). Similarly, advocating for standardization of education to both the rich and the poor people in the society is vital in ensuring the existence of a perfect classroom.
