Students today differ from one another in a variety of ways.

Nearly every student in the classroom is special and needs individualized care in order to flourish. There are several ways in which the pupils differ from one another, including in terms of color, socioeconomic status, gender, ethnicity, and cognitive development. In that situation, it is crucial that the teaching methods be adaptable and sensitive to the capacities, demands, and erudition preferences of the individual students. That allows the teachers to create the general learning strategies that guarantee the achievement of any student. All kids are capable of learning and developing to their full potential when provided with the opportunities, helpful instruction, and appropriate resources by the teachers.

Modification of Curriculum and Assignments for Diverse Learners

One of the ways the instructors can meet the requirements of the diverse learners in the classroom is through the modification of the curriculum and assignments to increase their accessibility to the pupils. Taking for example in the case of the struggling readers, the instructors can use the sentence starters, ranked texts, cloze remarks, and word banks more often to make the students catch up quickly. The teachers always utilize the resources such as the ReadWorks.org to assist them in getting texts at anecdotal levels and the more they apply such tools, the more successful the learners always become. The instructors can also come up with songs and chants to assist in going along with the proficiencies and content that the students are learning. The idea is to make the skills and the content stick in the minds of the learners as the songs always act as a reminder when they are about to forget whatever information they received from their teachers (DeBose, 2016).

Strategies for IEP Students with Disabilities

When it comes to the IEP students who have a range of disabilities, the instructors can apply different stratagems such as considering their seating arrangements based on their capabilities. For instance, the learners with the behavioral concerns, the teachers can choose for them the neighbors who are positive role models to set an example and offer motivation as the students always want to please and fit in generally when they are with their peers. For that case, seating the pupils with the behavior issues close to their colleagues who can mold suitable procedures can assist them in understanding the simple tasks like taking notes, getting into the right pages, and even raising the hands and waiting for the teacher to call upon them. The teachers also, more often, do switch the seating chart so that they do not burn out the role models in the classroom (George, 2014).

Promoting Cultural and Linguistic Diversity

When dealing with a cultural and linguistic diversity class, the instructors can meet the needs of the learners through the promotion of the critical thinking and make the classroom laws culture explicit and facilitate the pupils to compare and contrast them with various cultures. The teachers can do so by communicating high expectations that can make every learner successful. They can also organize for the students to take part in learning communities within the neighborhood and school so that they can have the feeling of inclusion and acceptance while in the classroom setting with their peers (ASCD, 2017).

Diversity in the Classroom

In the majority of schools in the United States, the composition of the classroom is always diverse with almost all the races and ethnicity such as the African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and the Native Hawaiians, among others. Nearly a quarter of the classrooms have learners from low-income families, a half from the middle class, and the remaining quarter from high-class families. The pupils with physical and cognitive disabilities in the classrooms are always about one percent, and when it comes to gender, it is almost equal for the boys and girls.
