The Human Resource (HR) Functional Area

The Human Resource (HR) functional area is responsible for employee retention, new employee recruiting, optimizing employee morale, designing organizational maps, enhancing employee relations, and organizational effectiveness. Motivating employees is one way to accomplish higher expectations and inspired employees to perform higher-quality jobs. In this respect, the HR department provides equal remuneration and acknowledges and honors workers with outstanding performance. Transactional leadership refers to the arrangement between staff and administrators in which employees trade their obedience for a benefit, according to Curtis and O’Connell (2011). Based on the reward and punishment scheme, this style is effective in motivating staff to become productive team members. Transactional leadership also serves as a constant reminder to the employees that the management is keen on achieving maximum performance.

The Sales and Marketing Functional Area

Similarly, the sales and marketing functional area is committed to retaining employees by offering good salaries based on the industry requirements and providing different forms of reward. As can be seen, this functional area also uses transactional leadership to gain the trust of employees and motivate them in their endeavors. Next, the HR department provides employees with guidebooks, feedback, organizes forum session between managers and workers and advocates for teamwork so as to improve employee relations. In this case, the HR team exhibits servant leadership where the management is perceived as servants of employees rather than their master. This leadership style creates a healthy relation among the staff, which provides a positive ambiance at work, promotes trust, increases job satisfaction and encourages collaboration (Jenkins, & Stewart, 2010).

Performance Standards in the HR and Sales and Marketing Functional Areas

The HR functional area is guided by a set of performance standards namely the employees should be provided with benefits like health insurance, fair remuneration and other rewards for their hard work after every six months. This standard helps retain employees by controlling frequent and unplanned employee turnover. On the other hand, the performance of the Sales and Marketing functional area team is measured by continuous growth and increased market share. Accordingly, the sales and marketing department creates fair pricing, trains employees and leads advertisement campaign to promote its products. This performance standard is one of the greatest goals set for the company; achieving this goal creates new job opportunities and fosters a happy workplace.

The Importance of Research

In this research, I used various reading material suggested for this assignment. These material included books and online journals dealing with controlling and leadership. I also conducted my own research on various leadership websites. Using online research is critical in ensuring the integrity of the study because it provides up-to-the-minute information about the subject matter (Newton, & Doak, 2016). It is also noteworthy that the research took a lot from my personal experiences as a student and having incredible leaders in my life. In virtually all schools, students are usually rewarded for exemplary academic performance. Furthermore, my school has created an organizational chart defining the roles the lecturers and delegating work among the members. Such experiences reflect strategic alignment with some of the organizational goals of each functional area.
