In Ashburn, there is a church called Community Church. Sunday sessions begin at 9.00 and 10:00 a.m. (Community Church). I went to the church to watch the service in order to gain a better grasp of Christianity. I observed, among other things, what occurs before the service starts, what people bring to church, and the content of the sermons. The purpose of writing this essay is to develop a knowledge of Christianity through personal reflection and experience, as described below. According to the planning and monitoring, the local church is a monotheist. This is because they worship and belief in one God who is the father, the son and the Holy Spirit (Young, William). The bible is a reference for the Christians. This guides them to live a life free of sin. It contains the Ten Commandments which with the other verses of the Bible, the believers tend to understand the nature of life they should lead. Christians also believe that Satan is the king of the world we live and thus he can interfere with one’s plans. This encourages them to pray every time they are starting a service, a day, for a night and an event. This is because Satan could have planned bad things. Praying makes him weak and cancels his plans to the believers who have a strong faith. I also learned that spreading the good news is not only through the teachings but songs which are categorized as praise and worship plays a major role. This is because people are different as some may concentrate on the teaching and others not and thus music becomes important. Offerings are used as a symbol of sacrifice to God for His good deeds. Prayer and offerings are key to Christians.
