Breakfast importance

Nutritionists advise people to eat a substantial amount of a balanced breakfast because it is thought to be the most important meal of the day. The body receives all the nutrients it requires to replenish itself when the composition of all nutrients is balanced, and a sufficient amount is required to refuel the individual for the remainder of the day. However, due to hectic schedules or excessive sleep, people frequently ignore this crucial ritual and carry on with their daily tasks. For instance, college students often find themselves skipping breakfast after a brief night of indulgence because it might be difficult to balance their free time with their academic obligations. The relevance of breakfast has been subject to research studies where scholars have been keen to find out if the intake or lack of it determines one’s performance during the day. This paper analyses the provided document to come up with an exploration, conclusion, and solution to the study with regards to the impact that breakfast has on a college student.

Exploration of the Research

The study was conducted in SurveyMonkey where 62 students were asked questions concerning breakfast in relation to their well-being throughout the day. The results showed little variation between the energy levels of individuals that take breakfast and those that skip it. The level of disparity between the two groups is an indication of weakness in the variables that were used in the study. However, the existence of the slight difference is enough to prove that indeed there exists a difference between persons that consume breakfast and others that forego it. Perhaps asking more questions in the research would have given more concrete results. For example, if the examination would have administered at least fifteen items in the study, the analysis would have been more detailed. However, this would have been a challenge since few students would have that much time to spare answering questions in their busy school schedule. The variables used to judge the relevance of breakfast in this research is a little controversial because arguably, one’s happiness could be as a result of something more than their breakfast intake. In addition, the questions needed to provide conflicting answers, such that, each would mean something contrary to the other. Remarkably, one could be happy and tired at the same time. Thus, associating happiness with an individual that ate breakfast and fatigue with an individual that skipped it can bring conflicting judgments and conclusions. Given more time and resources, the accuracy of the study would have been improved. For instance, it would have been experimental as opposed to merely asking questions and getting results from the answers provided.

Solutions that Breakfast Offers

A full, balanced breakfast solves the problems that come with skipping breakfast. The study shows that headaches and confusion characterize the day of persons that start their day without breakfast. The body needs the energy to carry out the activities of a busy day. The glucose found in carbohydrates is the prime source of glucose that is easily converted to energy. The advantage of a balanced breakfast is that, while proteins take some time to be digested, the starch gives instant glucose. For instance, when the contents of bread are depleted, the proteins in eggs will have been broken down to replenish the body. Therefore, a balanced breakfast is necessary for one to have a productive day. Breakfast needs to be heavy because most of it is broken down as the body uses it to produce energy (Adolphus, Katie, Clare, and Louise). Nevertheless, some individuals start out their days with exceptionally high energy levels without taking anything for breakfast. That group of people necessitates the need for further research on the role that breakfast plays as the first meal of the day.

Notably, the study should have invested more time and resources to conduct a more experimental research. More variety of questions would have given the examination a more in-depth analysis. A reference to a scholarly journal has however given credibility to the importance of breakfast in boosting energy levels. However, more study is required to unearth how certain individuals start their days strong even without breakfast.

Journal of Psychological Behavior where 144 individuals were experimented on. After staying up all night, some took a full breakfast, others did not, while an equivalent number only drunk coffee. The adults who skipped breakfast were most fatigued and scored the least in memory tests. The ones that just had coffee recorded an absence of fatigue but scored less in intellectual skills compared to individuals that took a full breakfast. The feelings of fatigue are associated with a lack of balance in the blood sugar levels. Therefore, a complete breakfast raises the energy levels to prevent the headaches and confusion that comes with the failure to intake. Notably, low-glycemic foods and carbohydrates like wholemeal bread are high in fiber and contain glucose that gives the body an instant boost. As much as people that skip breakfast may start out with strength, it replenishes later in the day. Thus, it affects their mental and physical performance, and their productivity is compromised.
