An ISTJ is a duty fulfiller, a believer in traditions and law, very dependable and loyal to the work at hand, concerned in quiet living and security, has a high regard for facts, and is responsible (Myers, 2002). In this paper, I will use ISTJ principles and beliefs based on my MBTI to create a self-reflection paper about how social engagement, civic responsibility, and diversity are related and what they mean to me.
Respect and acceptance are two aspects of the concept of diversity. As a result, it entails recognizing our uniqueness and accepting that each individual is unique. These can be along the dimensions of political beliefs, religious beliefs, gender, ethnicity, race and other ideologies (Parekh, 2011). Civic responsibility is active participation in the public life of the society in a constructive, committed, and informed manner, whereby one focus on the common interest. The importance of civic responsibility, of the society is that they are essential to the success of philanthropy and democracy (Kaye, 2010). On the other hand, social engagement is one’s participation in the society or community activities. It helps people to work constructively between and within social groups to create more sustainable and resilient communities (Maile, 2014).
All these three concepts connect to each other whereby none can function without the other, because they all deal with people and serve for a common goal. Cultural diversity is significant, since schools, workplaces, homes, leadership, and country consists of different ethnic, racial, and cultural groups. Therefore, people can learn from each other after creating a level of understanding concerning one another to facilitate cooperation and collaboration. After collaborating with each other due to cultural diversity, people can understand that they have a common civic responsibility as a citizen. A citizen must be contributing, caring, responsible, and productive member of the society, whereby you participate on issues of governance, leadership, tax payment, and volunteering among other. Moreover, after incorporating diversity and civic responsibility as a citizen, one must be involved in a social engagement that deals with collective activities that reinforce social norms and social capital (Smith, 2008).
Conclusion
As an ISTJ these concepts are very significant to me because I am a duty fulfiller. I believe in traditions and laws, therefore, embracing diversity is one of my key goals in life. Also, I am a very dependable, faithful, and loyal persons, meaning I believe on fulfilling my social responsibility like treating everyone in a fair and equal ways and engaging in meaningful and serious dialogue. Also, as an ISTJ, I have great respect for facts; therefore, I believe it is significant for me to be active on social engagements within the society and school. This will help me to promote culture and education and contributes to combating social exclusion (Myers, 2002).
