A video is a type of multimedia source that combines a series of different images to create a moving object. The videos usually send a signal to a particular computer. Many videos have various audio components that appear to align with the images shown on the screen. When reviewing Amy Web’s and Misha Glenny’s videos, one notices that the two speakers use various strategies to enhance their narration, express a particular meaning without a conversation, or change or introduce our emotions. However, Amy Webb’s video of How I hacked online dating was better than that of Misha Glenny’s on Hire the hacker sVideo because it employed more techniques to attract the attention of the viewers.
In the use of silence, Misha Glenny’s video on Hire the hackers! elaborated on this technique better than Amy Webb’s video. The speaker used silence by putting sound over talking with the intention of conveying the feelings of terror. However, the speaker’s use of this stylistic stratagem is many and ranges from horrific to creation of suspense. At the start of the video, the speaker switches the lights off and goes into a silent mode for a moment to allow the viewers to view the scene on “the mystery sponsor”. The video tends to give some kind of potential explanation on this scene before the speaker could elaborate on it. Misha Glenny used a high-speed silent video with the intention of capturing and reproducing sound including intelligible speech and music. The “Mystery sponsor” is heard speaking, and the speaker poses for about 2 seconds to let the message sink in.
In the use of resources, both speakers used projectors to try and resonate with the audience. The speakers accomplished this by targeting visual and auditory senses. The use of visual aids tends to supplement the speaker’s words with the use of pictures, charts, graphs, and other forms of visual information. However, Amy Web utilized more visual aids in her presentation such as graphs, charts, tables, pictures of her family, and her personal notes with the purpose of helping the audience understand as well as remember. The use of these additional visual aids also helped her increase the audience’s interest (Louis, 123). For instance, we could hear the audience laughing at some of her statements. In addition, the increased use of visual aids also acted as reminders or notes for the speaker.
In terms of the use of sound for video production, Misha Glenny utilized more music and sound effects. This is seen through the use of a sound reinforcement system. This is a combination of loudspeakers, microphones, and amplifiers that tend to make pre-recorded or live sounds louder (Muller, 24). In the video by Misha Glenny, the use of a sound enhancement system allows him to distribute various sounds to a larger audience. The speaker also used other forms of sound effects with the intention of emphasizing artistic or other contents in his presentation.
However, when it comes to the use of real-life examples, Amy Webb utilized many of them with the purpose of exemplifying her story. For instance, Amy Webb used pictures of her entire extended family with the aim of elaborating the fact that they had started their own families and were giving Amy the pressure to start her own. She even imitated her grandmother’s voice by saying “Amy stop complaining!” She also gave her personal life stories and experiences with dating men from online websites. For example, she gave an example of how one of her dates ran off without paying the bill for their meal. These real-life examples allowed the audience to connect with her on a more personal level. Amy Webb also utilized body language to get her point across. She utilized non-verbal cues to express and convey her message. This was through the use of gestures and facial expressions (Kurien, 30). This allowed the audience to stay interested in what she said.
In conclusion, it is evident that Amy Webb’s video on how I hacked online dating was better in comparison to that of Misha Glenny. This is because she used more gestures to try and get her audience interested. She also used numerous life examples and resources such as graphs, pictures, and images to try and exemplify her story.
