My name is Paul Williams, and I work for the legal consulting firm Global Legal Cooperation as an assistant managing attorney. Because of the excessive amount of activities going on at our offices, my coworkers and I occasionally resort to using shortcuts in order to finish the task before the deadline. As an aid manager, it is my responsibility to make sure that every case that has been submitted has legal representation. Dealing with legal difficulties can be challenging because different people have varied legal situations, from murder to burglary, and each of these instances requires a unique strategy to handle it. We have seen numerous growths over the years, and that has come with some challenges from every corner from other competitive companies to client to even my fellow associates. As a company that operates with high-end customers that want a fast deal and do not necessarily care much to use the right channels just as long as they win, we become forced to be dubious in our ways for the client’s sake.
The company started as a small legal consultancy firm which aimed to give justice to the people who were in need. Justice for the oppressed and poor who cannot afford legal representation became the driving force of the company in its genesis. Many people received helped, and the surrounding community was able to benefit from our charitable efforts as a company.
As time went by the wave of how good our company was at handling legal matters spread throughout the state and created such a buzz that every criminal wanted us. More permanent clients began to contact us with their issues that all over sudden were bigger than the cases we were previously handling. The cases came in such a way that saying no was not an option because the price tag was quite hefty. A compromise had to be made for the company to reach its present height of success but the price for the success proved to be high, as it is the ethics of all of us who work at the company. We should be leaders of truth and justice, and yet we have compromised our values and moral beliefs for a price (Silverstein 3). The two ethical dilemmas that we face right now as a firm is that of wrong ways of carrying out cases and the lack of proper conduct that is by the laws.
The choice for the situation at hand is to change the mode of operations and stick to truth and justice as it was to be from the beginning. It is such a challenge to change and be straight after we have had contracts and a long run with clients who have even won cases that they were guilty on all because of us. The saying is that it is never too late to change but then again what will the repercussions of that kind of a decision be. Another alternative to clearing such a mess would be to dissolve the company and every associate to go their way as independent attorneys and legal representatives.
The long run of success sure has felt good, but it has come with many sleepless nights of guilt for the cases that were forced and even regret the innocent people who failed because of our representation. A solution would have to come from all the members of the company as a group. Leaving the company in its current position will lead to a dead end and a feeling of untrustworthiness to our first clients who were genuine when they were asking for help.
I would recommend a self-reflection for every individual involved in the company. Everyone should ask themselves why they decided to part of the justice system and if the purpose they wanted to achieve has been made. Whether or not we opened the company for justice or self-gain will be the solution to the future of the enterprise as the purpose will be in the open.( Silverstein 7). Ethics and morality should be our number one driving force especially since we work for the justice system.
The problem of unethical practices and selfish ambitions regarding self-gain has been the major issues that face our company at this point. People involved have gotten to the point where it does not matter if it goes against their morals or ethics as long as it makes their pockets fatter and their names in people’s mouths. The greed and selfishness have gotten to the point that it is disgusting as many people become wrongly presented and others falsely charged by the law because of the representation that we offer for the highest bidders. A company meeting is in the works for self-reflection for every individual in the enterprise, to analyze their purpose as justice officers. When all the workers can be able to reflect on their purpose and duty in the system of justice, I am sure that a fantastic solution will come up. People will be able to recognize that it is about the people and not their self-gain. If we have people realizing their moral responsibility, then the company is salvageable.
