The film is not only intriguing but also educational because it sheds light on numerous challenges and solutions faced in educational settings. I learned about the broad statistics of several parts of schooling while I watched the film. In my opinion, the reason why kids use their electronic devices so much is because they are so dependent on them. Therefore, I believe that the use of cell phones in the classroom may be both entertaining and advantageous if it were implemented in all educational institutions because it would give students the chance to learn in a comfortable and familiar setting. After watching the video I was left in utter shock and disbelief by some of the findings presented, such as the fact that college graduates have spent over 40,000 hours on multimedia devices, which I consider too much time, while children under the age of two years spend approximately two hours on screen media. As a student teacher, another aspect that stunned me was the fact that students only study the night before a test since I thought they regularly study not necessarily during tests (Hamid, 2009). I was to a great extent offended by students’ belief that schoolwork is not meaningful or will not impact in their lives since I strongly advocate for equal education opportunities for all students, as education is the ultimate key to success.
In conclusion, one of the issues I would like my student teacher peers to contemplate and comment on is such as if the application of cell phones in schools for learning purposes is advisable. Other issues I came across that need commentaries are, whether application of internet in teaching is appropriate and whether I could effectively educate my students using podcasts.
