A Response to: Media/Gabrielle

It is accurate to say that the classroom is constantly evolving and that instructors must adapt to these changes. It is true that the definition of literacy is quickly evolving from the “three R’s,” read, write, and arithmetic, to a more general, complex one that includes the three, computer literacy abilities, and creativity. The dynamics of the contemporary workplace, which demand that individuals express themselves through the creative application of ideas, knowledge, and implementation, have been the driving force behind this development. Understanding how to use multimedia is crucial for these reasons.

According to what you say, students need to be ready to comprehend how the media functions in relation to their contextual disciplines, relevance, and information analysis. I agree with this. However, I disagree with you on the part when you say that we, the instructors, should ask the students to develop media projects within the course then explain how they are to be applied. I feel that such methods are already being used in the current curriculum in many courses, and they fall within part of subject requirements, which the students may forget from time to time. I would suggest that a new method be devised to fully integrate information technology and multimedia throughout the system. In this way, students passively learn to rely on these devices and methods of expression of ideas, thus subconsciously developing personal working techniques through their day-to-day interaction with the new technologies.

In a bid to fully adapt to the new trends, the whole education system should be revolutionized to include futuristic teaching and learning techniques that enhance collaboration among students and teachers (Thomas, 2013). With the multimedia and the computer technologies as the media of instruction, students can work with their teachers to assimilate knowledge of their respective disciplines.
