A Poverty Project Proposal

Poverty is a condition of shortage. Poverty is a term that can be approached from a variety of perspectives. There are several topics to consider, including diplomatic, technological, political, and social dimensions. Complete poverty is a situation in which people lack the means to earn their basic needs, such as housing, clothes, and food. Poverty also includes a lack of access to sports centers, medical treatment, and jobs. Most of the time, the government is unable to fulfill the basic needs of its population due to debts and loans, graft, some citizens refusing to pay taxes, and brain loss of experts in the medical and educational fields. In the recent census done in the United States, the report revealed that there is a situation of increased unemployment, slow economic growth and stagnated incomes. The adults and children who survive in poverty deal with increased financial difficulties and therefore, devising ways of alleviating the poverty levels is a vital thing which will bring positive results to the poor Americans.

Over 15.1% of the Americans are living below the stipulated poverty line where one out of five children comes from poor families livelihood (“Child poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean” 110). Such children face an increased rate reduced the mental ability, access to education, high dependence on community assistance and raised rates of imprisonment due to involvement petty crimes in the struggle to get their livelihood. The increased poverty brings a high salary and wealth gap in America because the poor adults earn low wages or some are not even working. In the long-run, there is a vicious circle of poverty among the people living below the poverty line due to lack of decent jobs to assist in raising the economy of the country or the society. Therefore, there is need to reduce poverty levels.

Poverty raises health dangers among the poor people. Most children born to poor parents have underweight issues due to increased food insecurity which adversely impacts their health. Adults have low wages or no jobs at all, and they suffer from chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart attacks due to lack of funds to access medical care and lack of medical care insurance(Iceland 67). Poor people, therefore, have reduced life expectancy compared to high-income earners. In the United States, poverty drains billions of money per year from the economy. Instead, the government channeling much of its resources in investing to boost the economy, much of the money goes to cater for the high healthcare expenditure and in funding increased criminal courts proceedings.

Due to the increased number of poor people, the purchasing power has decreased. Lack of a stable workforce is low due to lack of vocational training and academic education among the poor hence there is a reduced economic growth in America. Another reason why there is need to reduce poverty is that it decreases the future competitiveness of the United States. Poverty destroys the future human-capital establishment which is a vital element in the ability of the U.S. to compete effectively in the world’s economy (“What is Poverty? - Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation”). The children who are raised by poor parents perform unsuccessfully in school due to many struggles they undergo, and they have restricted access to higher education hence end up lacking skills to help them get well-paying jobs. This phenomenon will have negative impacts on the economic competitiveness across the globe.

Poverty levels should be alleviated because they lead to the infirmity of democracy. Wide gaps in wages, wealth and accessibility economic, political, educational and social opportunities are increasing rapidly in the United States (Jordan 161). Consequently, there is a development of a system where the people living below the poverty line are not able to participate fully in the practice of their duties as citizens. The wealthy in the society have the power to make the government leaders understand their wants and values unlike the poor. As a result, the poor are not represented in the policy-making procedures due to lack of uniformity in politics and representation.

On the world agenda today, poverty is highly discussed. Ideally, every person is entitled to obtain a quality education, medical care free of charge. Unfortunately, in reality, millions of people on the globe are weak so that they cannot afford to get access to quality food, shelter, clothing, clean water, and education (GlobalGiving: Donate to Charity Projects around the World). Without the individual programs directed towards bringing interventions to alleviate the issue of poverty, then many people in the United States will not be able to get even the most primary needs. Unfortunately, the poor in the society is not involved in the plan of actions directed towards ending the vicious cycle of poverty. Poverty is the primary hindrance to most of the people from gaining the education and basic needs, and there is a need to put in place measures to eradicate the vicious cycle of poverty for the poor people in the society including children, women, and men.

This project targets at finding a solution to the problems faced by the vulnerable, poor people in the United States since there has been invisibility of their issues yet they are part of the community. In most cases, programs that are developed in the nation directed to reducing poverty are futile due to corruption practiced by the administrators charged with the responsibility of helping the poor. The poor people are mostly ignored by the society partially because they are powerless and seem to have no impact on the development of the nation (“Global Poverty Project” 102).

The findings of this project will assist in acknowledging that the problems facing most poor people in America can be addressed adequately. The issues include lack of quality food, shelter, water, and clothing. Also, on the list is poorer physical health and lack of protection and parental care and guidance for the youth. Illiteracy, lack of access to healthcare services and insufficient basic needs are top Problems since they are significant criteria for evaluating the people who are profoundly disadvantaged and prone to problems (UNRISD).

Though there has been agreement among the donors concerning high flexibility in the implementation of the action plan of poverty by the government and the civil society, the action plan does not include many challenges faced by the poor people. The reason for the increased poverty levels is the lack of involvement of the poverty affected people in the regular consultative reviews (Baber and Dimon 60). There is a need for lobbying and developing ways of ensuring that the problems facing the poor have been solved. The school fee in most schools is exceptionally high, and the poor people cannot afford to access it. The prices of goods and services have gone high such that only the rich people in the society can get the high-quality products with ease.

This project aims to improve the standards of living of the poor people who live in dilapidated and socially excluded areas through material and moral support, educational and vocational training. The project will grant the vulnerable, poor people from marginalized and neglected areas quality life by offering free education, healthcare, and moral support. The project will also be committed to positively influencing the lives of people from socially excluded areas and the children who have no one to care for and protect them. The project will be founded on the principle of equality and uniqueness of all human beings. Every person regardless of age, race or creed is entitled to access quality healthcare, food, clothing and shelter and a relatively comfortable life.

Some of the core values which will guide our plan of actions are equality for all people since we are all equal in the presence of God (GlobalGiving: Donate to Charity Projects around the World), the project will, therefore, be obligated to work towards developing a process that will enhance uniformity. The project will strive to establish an institution that upholds the dignity of human life and the rights of every person particularly the people living in rural areas. Once established, the institutions will ensure there is the protection of worthiness of every human being in utilizing the available resources as stipulated by God and personal order. Once the institution is developed, it will embrace and treat with dignity the international and national initiatives directed towards caring and supporting the poor from vulnerable backgrounds and the people from rural areas to eradicate diseases such as chronic diseases such as hypertension, communicable diseases and HIV/AIDs, ignorance and poverty.

The significance of seeking to undertake this project on the importance of building medical, educational and residential facilities for the poor, vulnerable people is based on the invisibility of the problems facing the disadvantaged individuals from marginalized and the neglected areas. The poor people form a significant portion of the total population and failing to address the issues affecting them may lead to stagnation of the economy of the country. Majority of the poor people are powerless and have less influence. Hence most of the resources available at the local, national and international level are concentrated on other projects instead of improving the living standards of the poor population. Failure to give adequate attention to the issues related to poverty can result in the continuation of the vicious circle of poverty which may be passed on from one generation to the other. Therefore, the plan of action directed to both academic and vocational training, quality medical care and access to basic needs will alleviate the adversities encountered by the poor.

The first main objective of this project is to elevate the quality of life of poor people by providing them with a home, educational facility and a hospital. The second aim is to provide training to the caregivers to enable them to offer care to the poor in an efficient manner. The project will also strive to provide sufficient vocational and academic training to the vulnerable, poor people to convert them into productive citizens and enable them to brighten their future. Lastly, the project will try to establish awareness both nationally and internationally on the requirement to care and support the people living in poverty and ensuring their rights are protected.

The project will be working to achieve a general goal of raising the quality of life of the poor in the United States. The verifiable indicators of the progress of the project will include improved healthcare, increased innovations and nutritional improvement. The sources of verification of the project will include the reports of primary medical care from clinics and medical workers and reports from teachers, tutors and the head teachers. The critical assumption of the project will cover availability of material and financial support from the non-governmental organizations and donors. Crucial systematic aid to the project will consist of a car to transport the materials, workforce, and equipment. There will also be need of equipping the caregivers with the skills required to care and protect the diversified needs of the poor, vulnerable people. There will be regular scrutiny of Mileage register and logbook, checking the purchasing and repair receipts to ensure accountability of the resources. There will also be frequent checking of educational records and regular visits to monitor the progress of the project.

Planning and management of the project will entail developing a project plan of actions, recording and reviewing the policy frequently. Regular meetings with all the shareholders will be held to ensure accountability and progress of the project. The courses of verification for the project will be the production of project inspection reports. To run the project smoothly, the project will be established through the help of Donors, General assembly, Board of directors, Executive director, Project committee, Instruction resource people and Voluntary workers. With sufficient funding, the project will be able to provide a sustainable happy life to most of the poor people in the society through regular medical check-ups and offering educational materials such as stationaries, science apparatus, computer accessories and vocational training resources. Ensuring there is fitness and games equipment such as nets, balls, shuttles, and rackets to facilitate the people with physical fitness and enjoyment and promoting requirements such as food, clean water, utensils, bedding, and clothing.

Once the project begins functioning, it will be targeting 3000 poor people, including children, men, and women. The project aims at making the poor people in the society to lead a happy life and empower them to gain essential skills to help them eradicate poverty. The project will be focused on obtaining land and developing a hospital, academic and vocational training centre and a rehabilitation centre where the poor can get medication easily when sick, basic needs and easy access to skills and academic education. The first phase of the project will entail the acquisition of land and rehabilitation centre construction. Once the land is obtained, this phase will entail the establishment of a home where the poor people will be provided with primary materials and equipment to use in their daily activities. The project will make a vital assumption that there will be sufficient financial and material support from the expected donors, society, and people of good will. The first phase will consume an estimated amount of US $ 50,000.The second phase of the project will comprise the development of an educational facility. This phase will involve establishment of classrooms, information and technology centre, modern laboratories and library. Also, the facilities will be equipped with desks, apparatus, vocational skills materials and human resource. The second phase will consume an estimated amount of US$ 100,000.Finally, the third phase will involve the construction of a medical care facility. This phase will provide all medical care services to poor children and the adults and the whole community. The services will include surgical services, dental care, maternity services and V.C.T. and guidance and counselling services. The third phase will consume an estimated amount of US$ 20,000.
