A Personal Statement: Public Accounting career dream

Corporate accounting scandals have increased over time, and I believe this can be ascribed to lax accounting regulations and carelessness on the part of accountants. These instances have considerably strengthened my desire to pursue a profession in certified public accounting. I firmly feel that the position is ideal for me and that, as a devoted, industrious, diligent, and team player, I can make a significant impact in the industry. Additionally, the position will be helpful in assisting me in overcoming some of my faults, such as my tendency to be overly friendly and judgmental. My passion for accounting has over the years been driven by the desire to bring changes to corporate financial systems. The thought of organizations sinking deeper into debts or engaging in accounting scandals hurts me, and these are among the reasons that direct my focus to the Certified Public Accounting as the most suitable career path that I can embrace. Some of the roles that I will partake upon landing myself the job in the future will include preparation and analysis of the company’s financial reports, creation, and interpretation of budgets, forecasting of revenues generated by the firm and active participation in organizational strategic planning and investigation of variances.

I am a driven person that aims at ensuring that I meet my full potential in my career path. Currently, I work as a financial analyst in a local freight company in the accounting department. Having worked in the company for the past three years, I have to say that my experience in the field has improved tremendously. A lack of job satisfaction and career progression at the workplace are some of the factors that have rekindled my dreams of being a Certified Public Accountant in any of the established companies across the country.

I am intelligent, honest, a team player and keen to learn new skills that are vital in improving my experience. Moreover, I am a methodological worker that is able to concentrate for long hours at work while dealing with complex accounting figures and data. As a good problem solver and decision maker, I helped my colleagues ensure that they build strong relationships amongst themselves and at the same time with the customers. I also have excellent communication skills both verbally and orally and this I believe will be essential in my dream career. Finally, I am a jack of all trades and motivated in ensuring that I have a successful accounting career.

On the flip side, my judgmental nature affects my quest in ensuring that I meet some of my goals. In some cases, for instance, I always want to be the one making decisions even if it may not concern me. In the event of failures, I regularly blame myself, and it may take some time before I get back to my feet and focus on my set goals. Another weakness that has negatively affected my career path in the past three years is my overly friendly character that makes it hard for some of my colleagues to draw a line between professionalism and interaction time. Apparently, this, on some occasions, makes it hard for me to direct some of my colleagues on partaking their duties and responsibilities.

Despite my weaknesses, I learn from all my mistakes, and it is through this attitude that I will keep on marching towards my dream Certified Public Accounting career. I am planning to join accounting classes before the end of the year, and this will supplement my degree in finance that I currently hold. Upon completing my coursework, I will also apply for an internship in some of the recognized accounting firms in the country to help strengthen my expertise in the field. As a self-motivated individual and my bolstered desire to pursue a degree in accounting, I do believe that I am on the right path of accomplishing my Certified Public Accounting career dream.
