A Letter to My Parents

134 views 3 pages ~ 811 words Print

Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation for everything you have done for me. I am blessed to have wonderful parents like you who have always believed in me. I would not be where I am today without your unfailing support. As I grew older, I realized that you had done so many things for me for which I had not acknowledged you. There are a million things I could thank you for, but here are a handful that are more important to me. I am fortunate for having incredible parents like you who have always believed in me. Without your unwavering support, I would never be where I am today. As I am growing up, I just realized that you had done so many things for me which I have not indeed thanked you. There are a million of things which I can write thank you for, but here are some of the few things which are dearer to me.

Though no amount of thank you can suffice, your way of parenting has been a pillar of support and guidance in my entire life since I was a young a child. Mom and dad, everything that you taught me is a staircase I climb to reach where I am today. You always insist on knowing all my friends to make sure I associate with good people. Thus, today I always strive to surround myself with respectable people in every phase of my life. Whenever I say “I love you,” I honestly do mean it with a comprehending sincerity and gratitude for your influences upon my strength. Although you mean well, I feel that you have been very strict with your rules that I have missed so much in life as compared to my friends. I think that some little freedom will not do any harm because that way I will be able to stand for myself in future.

Thank you for instilling special memories during my childhood which I still remember to date. The memories you created during road trips, the many Notre Dame Games and special outings will forever remain in my mind. You showered me with love in its rarest form and made me realize how it feels to go beyond life’s obstacles. I still remember you yelling at other parents when their children fought me on the field. During my childhood, you always taught me to stand up for myself and showing me that I was more than capable. I remember mum laughing at the kindergarten teacher when he thought that I could get it rough because I was unable to gallop. To you, I was more capable than acting like an animal in a corridor.

Dad, thank you for making me understand what it means to leap of faith. You are always supporting me in everything even if it doesn’t seem logical at times. For showing me that in life nothing comes easy without hard work. That countless hours of work, sweat and determination pay off. You always believed that I am capable and always ready to offer any support that I need to chase my dreams.

Mom, you have always given me a shoulder to cry on whenever am down when everything seems to crash down around me. You made me realize my worth, and that and I should not settle for anything less than what I deserve. Thank you for your personality which has helped shape me into the person I am today. Your sense of humor, happiness regardless of the situation and the ability to make friends, has enabled me to face every situation with courage. I can now face fear directly in the face until it gives me way and backs down.

Though you may always mean good to me, I still don’t understand why you are overprotective and strict to me. You are always scared to let me go, and in most cases, you treat me like a pre-pubescent twine who will ever complain about every minor issue such as having braces and waking up for school. Although I may lack much experience in life, I need some freedom and experience life because that way I will be able to establish my values and discover my true identity. Mom and dad, thank you for sheltering me but sometimes say yes to my judgments because the morals that you have taught me are enough to defend myself without holding onto your hand.

Without each one of you, I would not be the person I am today. Your true sacrifice and unending love have enabled me to achieve many dreams that I never thought I could reach. My promise is to make you proud because you truly deserve the best. My gratitude to both of you is endless, and all that I can say is “Thank you.”

Sincerely,

Your Child.
