A Dying Doctor’s Decision to Stop Eating and Drinking and Die with Grace

This is the best film I’ve seen regarding death, how people deal with their final minutes alive, and how they feel about the process of dying. Because it depicts Michael Miller, a man approaching death, the video has been extremely informative.

The film’s plot centres around Michael Miller, a retired neurosurgeon who is now facing death due to cancer. Michael determines that he does not want to be in pain as a result of his cancer treatment and attempts to prolong his life.therefore, he opts to ceasing to eat and drink so that his end would come faster and be less painful. These Michael’s thoughts have helped me understand the burden and the problems that people who have cancer face and this is even better illustrated by the pain the man begins to feel at the end. This caused me to become very emotional and made me feel sorry for individuals subjected to such a situation. This is because I feel that there is no such pain as knowing that one is not only going to die very soon, but will also feel immense pain.

In the film, Michael Miller states, “I am Michael Miller. Soon I will discontinue eating and drinking, and drift into death in days. I am extricating myself from a wretched end of life.” This is a statement of an individual who is courageous no matter how he feels about his condition and what awaits him in the future. However, I feel that he should not have had a faint heart, as sometimes miracles do happen and a person can be able to conquer cancer with the help of the methods and treatments available in the present day.

The movie presents a situation that is characterized by grief and inspiration. This is largely demonstrated by the filming Michael Miller’s wife and the way the situations affect her. In the film, she seems to be heartbroken because she knows that Michael Miller is going to die and there is nothing that she can do to help him. On the other hand, the concept of inspiration is felt when she concurs with her husband’s decisions. This to me is an indication that she was feeling the pain that her husband was going through and understood the struggles he would face in the future.

The film is encouraging and inspirational, as it creates a sense of positivity even though the main character is facing pain and death. His actions are mainly positive and peaceful and this is an indication that he had already made up his mind about the issue. He maintains his sense of humor during the time of struggle, which is an indication that he is not sad about his impending death. I find this to be encouraging, as it shows that one does not necessarily need to be sad when being informed about impending death.

The movie has also been able to capture the issue of a family that seems to be supportive of Michael Miller’s actions. It is obvious that his family loves him, as they understand his pain and want to do anything to help him, even if it means letting him go.

To conclude, I feel that the film is truly touching and inspirational and it should be watched by individuals who are suffering from terminal illnesses, as it can give them some encouragement, inspiration, and positivity.
